How to add a module position in a Joomla 2.5 template?

Solution

First, you should check which is the default Joomla 2.5 template used by your web site. This can be found in the Joomla 2.5 admin area -> Extensions -> Template Manager.

Then, load your cPanel -> File Manager or open your favourite FTP client. Find the following files located in your Joomla 2.5 folder:

templates/Template_Name/index.php

and

templates/Template_Name/templateDetails.xml

Replace Template_Name with the actual name of your Default Joomla 2.5 template.

Edit them. In the first file add the following line where the new position should be set:

         <jdoc:include type="modules" name="My_new_position" />

In the second file find the positions definition section and add the following line:

        <position>My_new_position</position>

Save the changes under your hosting account.

Navigate to the Joomla 2.5 admin area and change the position of a chosen module to the new one. Detailed instructions can be found in the following knowledge base article:
